CLIENT: UNITED MISSION FOR RELIEF & DEVELOPMENT (UMR) | 12-MONTH ENGAGEMENT | DESIGN & IMPLEMENTATION SUPPORT
Client: United Mission for Relief & Development (UMR), an international NGO implementing multi-sector programs across 12 countries
RCG Team: RCG’s multidisciplinary team led the consulting project
Engagement: 12 months, spanning strategy design and implementation support (expanded from the initial design-phase scope to include hands-on implementation)
Assignment Scope
UMR sought to diversify its funding base beyond individual donors, toward corporate, private foundation, and institutional funding in order to scale its 12-country program portfolio. RCG’s engagement combined external and internal diagnostic work with prospect generation, strategy design, and direct implementation support, structured around four core needs: landscape analysis, competitive benchmarking, prospect generation, and a 3-year fundraising and implementation strategy.
Approach
External and internal analysis, using Porter’s Five Forces and PESTLE to assess the nonprofit funding landscape, and SWOT and an internal capabilities framework to evaluate UMR’s fundraising readiness, governance, and donor data.
Competitive benchmarking against peer organizations to identify best-in-class revenue strategies and untapped funding niches.
Prospect generation and donor mapping, aligning UMR’s country program profiles against institutional donor priorities and funding cycles, producing detailed profiles of ten priority prospects.
Three-year fundraising strategy design and implementation support, co-created with UMR leadership through structured milestone reviews.
Key Outcome
The engagement’s most significant outcome was the delivery of a structured, three-year fundraising roadmap that positioned UMR to diversify and grow its revenue base across corporate, foundation, and institutional channels — giving the organization, for the first time, a coordinated strategy rather than ad hoc fundraising efforts. Alongside the roadmap, the engagement’s implementation support helped UMR begin cultivating new donor relationships identified through the prospect-generation process.
Anticipated Impact
A durable fundraising infrastructure; donor mapping, prospect profiles, and a 3-year strategic roadmap that continues to guide UMR’s revenue growth beyond the engagement’s conclusion.
Reduced reliance on individual giving, through a structured pipeline of corporate, foundation, and institutional prospects.
Stronger positioning to scale program delivery and social impact across UMR’s 12-country footprint, as new funding channels mature.
